The construction of an asphalt plant in Rockton, Illinois, is now at a 'stand still,' according to a report by 13 News.
The report says the decision comes after a Winnebago County Judge Lisa Fabiana issued a stay after more than 12 residents filed a lawsuit to prevent the plant from being built.
Earlier this year, the Northern Illinois Service Company applied for a permit to build the facility near Main Road and Route 2 in Rockton.
In June, the Winnebago County Board approved the project in a 10 to nine vote.
According to the report, Pam Ertz, a Rockton resident says. “This is what we needed to go forward with the proceedings so we feel good that you know we have the time now to prove out case.”
Gary Jury, Winnebago County board member, tells 13 News over the phone that he believes the new plant would bring jobs and promote more economic growth in the area.
Despite this, several residents are concerned the plant will take away from the village's charm, the report adds.
13 News says the company declined to comment on the lawsuit. A follow-up court hearing will take place on the 12 December.
