The NC Division of Environmental Quality will host a public hearing on a proposed gravel quarry in Snow Camp, North Carolina, on 5 December, says Thetimesnews.com. The session will take place at Sylvan Elementary school.
The report says the state Department of Environmental Quality is reviewing the application from Alamance Aggregates to establish the crushed-stone operation on 321-acres in the area of Quackenbush, Clark and Snow Camp roads.
The county planning department approved the firm’s local application in alignment with the Heavy Industrial Development Ordinance.
The ordinance divides the country’s industries into four categories based on the North American Industry Classification System, with each one having its own spacing requirement from 250 to 2,000 feet.
The ordinance does not require a public hearing, or for the commissioners to be informed, the article adds.
In October, Gary Ulicny, told the commissioners about the quarry. In exchange, the commissioners have asked the state to hold a public hearing in Alamance County.
