In a move that could be repeated elsewhere in the world, Spanish stone surfaces maker Grupo Cosentino is investing €2m (US $2.34m) in a plan to help the company to reduce road transport by managing its waste at its own plant.
The move has been made because the local province of Almeria lacks enough facilities to manage the volume of industrial waste generated by companies like Grupo Consentino.
The new plant is 65 hectares in size and is located next to the Cantoria (Almeria) industrial park.
There are two vessels for the reception and treatment of inert and non-dangerous waste. They can manage some 200,000 tonnes of waste per year, although the project includes new phases of expansion for the coming years.
