A Union Pacific train hit a tractor trailer near the Vulcan Materials quarry off Texas 101 north of Bridgeport. A report by the Wise Country Messenger, says the driver was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth on Saturday.
According to the report, Ruiz Ignacio Jr. was crossing the tracks in his tractor trailer to enter the quarry when it was struck by a southbound train after 11 a.m. The cab came to rest on the west side of the tracks and the trailer on the east side.
Justin Jacobs, Union Pacific spokesman, says no members of the train's crew were injured and there was no derailment or releases from the train. The crossing does not have crossing arms, but there is a stop sign.
He has urged drivers to comply with all signs, lights and gates at crossings and recommended drivers whose vehicles get stuck on the tracks to call the railroad’s dispatch at 888-877-7267.
