Wallace Stone Co in Bay Port, Michigan has gained approval, after months of review, from county planners for a permit to expand its quarry and continue production.
Wallace requested a special use permit for 85 additional acres of land during an October planning commission meeting in order to continue business for another 20 to 25 years, the Huron Daily Tribune reports.
The 85 acres is located in three different townships: 69 in Fairhaven, 13 in McKinley and three in Winsor.
In December, planners asked the quarry to present more information on berms, bonds, setbacks and a complaint resolution.
The reclamation bond is for $600,000 and will be reviewed every five years and either raised or lowered.
Another issue planners requested more information on was for the quarry to work with nearby neighbors on a better setback that is more appropriate — or to build a berm.
