643 Cemex UK is opening the gates to its Yately fishing lakes in Hampshire, UK this weekend in a bid to raise some money for the 4658 Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

The event between 6 and 8 August is being held during the 4660 Angling Trust’s National Fishing Month and is being organised by Cemex area head bailiff Allan Stone. Cemex Angling donates use of the site for three days for the event and tickets are sold by Stoney and Friends – a group set up by Stone following the death of his mother from cancer in 1996.

The group has arranged annual fundraising fishing events at Cemex fishing venues since the group was set up. “4661 Stoney and Friends has grown far bigger than I could ever have dreamt of, and a lot of people freely give of their time to support our fundraising efforts,” said Stone.

Macmillan Cancer Support area fundraiser Judy Spence said, “Since they started fundraising for Macmillan in 1996 they have raised £320,000 which is the equivalent of funding two Macmillan nurses for three years, or a Macmillan Cancer Information Centre for over two years.

“There are two million people living with cancer in the UK today. We are only able to support half of those people, but our ambition is to be there for everyone who needs us. We have a long way to go to be able to do this, but with groups like Stoney and Friends we are getting one step closer to achieving our ambition.”

Cemex angling manager Roo Newby added, “We are delighted to support Allan and his friends in their charitable efforts. Yateley is an award winning fishing complex where some lakes have long waiting lists. This sponsored fish-in therefore provides welcome access for keen anglers, young and old, while also giving people the chance to have some fun and raise funds for a worthy cause at the same time.”
