Earmarked to open in 2013, the centre is the outcome of a memorandum of understanding between the US-based industrial services firm and the French metallurgical company Aubert & Duval (AD).
HM has developed a sorting technique for extracting metals, such as stainless steel, for recycling purposes, while others are transformed into aggregates to be used in road and civil engineering works.
Under the memorandum of understanding, HM will treat steel waste produce from AD’s Firminy site for ten to 12 years. HM plans to create between 30 and 40 jobs and generate around 200,000tonnes of metal aggregates a year.
