Six employees at Salop Sand & Gravel Supply Care have become the first to complete the Level 3 SHE certificate run by the 2904 Institute of Quarrying (IQ).

Sam Howells, Russell Collier, Nigel Baugh, Matthew Mclean, Glen Parke and Andrew Hart successfully completed the MPQC Level 3 Certificate in Safety, Health and Environmental Knowledge. Meanwhile, IQ member, Claire Selby, completed the MPQC Level 6 Diploma in Safety, Health and Environmental Management in Mineral Products Operations.

The Level 3 Certificate delivered by IQ has been developed to provide an in-depth understanding of essential elements required for an individual’s career development in the extractives and mineral processing industries. It is intended to deliver a firm foundation of knowledge in key elements of Safety, Health and Environmental processes and procedures, alongside additional complimentary key areas such as leadership and communication techniques and theory.

Julian Smallshaw, IQ head of educational development, delivered the certificates in person to Salop Sand & Gravel Supply’s head office in Telford.

“Continuing professional development (CPD) is extremely important within the mineral extractives industry, and IQ prides itself on delivering globally recognised training, education, and qualifications to its members," Smallshaw said. "Health and Safety is an ongoing industry issue therefore it’s imperative that industry professionals have the knowledge, understanding and practical application of key regulations and standards that affect our industry in order to work towards the aim of zero harm.”
