Italian cement manufacturer 726 Italcementi has said that its production output will not be interrupted during the ten days in which it has to bring its plant in Colleferro, Lazio, into line with atmospheric emissions legislation as ordered a by a court.

The company stressed that the emission caused by the production of cement, the plant's main source of emissions, is well below legal limits and is continuously monitored.

The Collferro plant was temporarily shut on 11 October, 2012, due to excessive atmospheric emissions. In particular, it is claimed that 14 smokestacks do not comply with current law regulations because they lack vertical vents and monitoring equipment. It is also claimed that emissions of 29 of the 119 smokestacks exceed the legislated limit, endangering the surrounding areas.

Italcementi, on its part, guarantees that it is going to make the required changes in order to comply to regulations, and confirms that the plant emissions, which are monitored 24/7, are under the limit.
