LafargeHolcim has announced the members of the five regional juries who will evaluate entries in the 6th International LafargeHolcim Awards to be held next year.
The Awards seek real projects as well as bold ideas that combine sustainable construction solutions with architectural excellence. The competition offers a total of US$2m in prize money and is open for entries until February 25, 2020.
The juries each feature nine members and the European jury will be headed by Jeannette Kuo, founding partner of Karamuk Kuo Architects (Switzerland).
The jury also includes Kristiaan Borret, Chief Architect of the Brussels-Capital Region (Belgium); Nuno Brandão Costa, founder of Brandão Costa Arquitectos (Portugal); Eva Pfannes, director at Ooze Architects (Netherlands); Sergei Tchoban, head of SPEECH architectural office and managing partner at Tchoban Voss Architekten (Russia/Germany); and Alexandre Theriot, founding partner and architect at BRUTHER (France/Switzerland).
The European jury will be complemented by members of the Academic Committee of the LafargeHolcim Foundation Marilyne Andersen, Professor of Sustainable Construction Technologies, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (Switzerland) and Dirk Hebel, Professor of Sustainable Construction, Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (Germany), together with Christophe Levy, Director of R&D Construction Solutions, representing the LafargeHolcim Innovation Center (France).
The US jury will be led by Reed Kroloff, Rowe Family Dean, College of Architecture, at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
It also features Marc Angélil, Professor of Architecture & Design, Department of Architecture, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich(Switzerland);Sarah Burch, Canada Research Chair in Sustainability Governance & Innovation, University of Waterloo (Canada); Mitchell Joachim, Co-Founder of Terreform ONE (USA); Sharon Johnston, Partner at Johnston Marklee & Associates (USA); Jesse LeCavalier, Professor at the John H Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, & Design, University of Toronto (Canada); and Sarah Whiting, Dean of the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University (USA).
The jury will be complemented by Marilyne Andersen, member of the Academic Committee of the LafargeHolcim Foundation and Professor of Sustainable Construction Technologies, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (Switzerland), and Emmanuel Garcia, R&D Construction Solutions Director, LafargeHolcim Innovation Center (France).
The Latin America jury will be led by Loreta Castro Reguera, design director and founder of Taller Capital (Mexico). It also includes Sandra Barclay, Principal at Barclay & Crousse Architecture (Peru); Luis Callejas, Co-Founder of Luis Callejas & Charlotte Hansson Landscape & Architecture (Colombia); Fernando Diez, Professor of Urbanism, Universidad de Palermo (Argentina); Vanderley John, Professor of Construction Engineering at Universidade de São Paulo (Brazil); and Cecilia Puga, Principal & Founder of Cecilia Puga Architects (Chile).
The jury will be complemented by members of the Academic Committee of the LafargeHolcim Foundation Marilyne Andersen, Professor of Sustainable Construction Technologies, and Harry Gugger, Professor for Architectural & Urban Design, both Swiss Federal Institute of TechnologyLausanne (Switzerland), together with Edelio Bermejo, Group Head of Research & Development, LafargeHolcim Innovation Center (France).
The Middle East/Africa jury is to be headed by Mariam Kamara, principal and Owner of atelier masōmī (Niger). It also includes Zegeye Cherenet, Professor at the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction & City Development (Ethiopia); Linna Choi, Principal at OUALALOU + CHOI (Morocco); Joana Dabaj, Co-Founder & Principal Coordinator at CatalyticAction (Lebanon); Huda Shaka, Associate Director at Arup (United Arab Emirates); and Heinrich Wolff, Director at Wolff Architects (South Africa).
The jury will be complemented by members of the Academic Committee of the LafargeHolcim Foundation Marilyne Andersen, Professor of Sustainable Construction Technologies, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (Switzerland) and Guillaume Habert, Professor of Sustainable Construction, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (Switzerland), together with Mohsen Ech, Research & Development Program Manager for Infrastructure Solutions, LafargeHolcim Innovation Center (France).
The Asia Pacific jury will be led by Nirmal Kishnani, Professor of Architecture, School of Design & Environment, at the National University of Singapore. It will also feature Chanasit Cholasuek, Co-Founder of stu/D/O Architects (Thailand); Christopher Lee, Co-Founder & Principal, Serie Architects (London, Mumbai, Singapore and Beijing); Nondita Correa Mehrotra, Principal at RMA Architects (India); Richard Hassell, Co-Founder of WOHA (Singapore); and Erwin Viray, Head of the Architecture Sustainable Design Pillar at the Singapore University of Technology & Design (Singapore).
