The new DEFRA abstraction licensing regulations came into effect on January 1 this year

The UK 2904 Institute of Quarrying’s IQ Academy is holding a webinar on the new abstraction licensing regulations by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (4358 DEFRA), and their impact on the mineral extractives sector.

The ‘Lunch and Learn’ webinar is a 30-minute online presentation that takes place on Thursday October 25 between 12:30-13:00. It will be presented by James Dodds, owner of environmental consultancy Envireau Water and an expert in water management and water resources hydrogeology.

The ‘Water Abstraction: Reviewing the transitional arrangements and new requirements’ webinar reviews the transitional arrangements and new requirements for abstraction licensing, which came into effect on January 1 this year. It will also examine what has been learned so far this year and focus on what those impacted need to do now in order to make sure that deadlines are met.

The webinar is the 10th in a series of issues-related online presentations by IQ Academy. The IQ says the webinars count towards valuable continuing professional development (CPD) and have been very popular, with hundreds of attendees from across the mineral and extractives industry to date. The next webinars to take place are:

November 29, 2018 - Data in the palm of your hand – Mobile, digital and 3D geology with Clive Mitchell of British Geological Survey
December 20, 2018 - The Aggregates Industry – A Market Perspective with Andy Sales of 671 BDS Marketing Research.

James Dodds has been actively involved in the UK minerals sector for 20 years and an IQ member since 1994. He has been intimately involved with the development and implementation of the New Authorisations process, both directly with the 4366 Environment Agency, the 2897 Mineral Products Association and with individual operators.

“Being involved with ‘Lunch and Learn’ is an excellent way for us to help IQ get members up to speed with these very relevant and important changes," said Dodds.
