Continuing the work with Breedon and the Express Mini Mix programme in delivering complete packages of Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) accredited MixerSURE training and the EMPI Awards Site Vehicle Competence Assessment (on-Road) (Mixers) vocational qualification, Area Logistics Manager Tom Colley wanted to put the same standards in place after recently welcoming the company's first SANY/Putzmeister electric truck mixer.
Mark Cowan, who develops MixerSURE for the DEK Group NE LTD, commented: "Having previously developed eMixerSURE training for McPhee Mixers and TVS Interfleet for their first Renault eMixer, Tom wanted something that reflected the high standards both he and Matthew Burdess from Express Mini Mix instilled across their fleets. As both are huge believers in the EMPI Awards SVCA qualifications, the logical step was developing an eMixer category to demonstrate driver competence and complement the new training.
"I had some previous interactions with SANY/Putzmeister, but creating the training and SVCA just meant applying the same standards but mapping them to the operating instructions from both Sany (chassis) and Putzmeister (body) and having everything aligned. It was slightly easier with the McPhee eMixer as I worked on their operational manual, but here we had to dissect both operating instructions, which took longer."
Tom Colley added: "Having the confidence that MixerSURE brings effective and industry-leading training to our fleet and that the standards Matthew and I have introduced, I wanted the same for Paul so we could apply this to the new electric mixer. We have an outstanding team of drivers who buy into what we are implementing, and it's a testament to the professionalism of our drivers, which has been successfully demonstrated again with Paul's accolade as the world's first qualified eMixer driver."
The EMPI Awards SVCA (On-Road) (Mixers) is a single-unit vocational qualification (VQ) regulated by SQA (Scottish Qualification Authority) Accreditation and delivered by Logico Training. The VQ allows drum, volumetric, and eMixers drivers to demonstrate competence in their daily roles.
Cowan continued: "Having a solid relationship with Tom and Matt allows us to work with them to provide training that benefits the drivers and gives them a greater understanding of their roles and challenges. Having an entire fleet of professionally qualified mixer drivers shows their commitment to excellence, and they are now the benchmark across the industry.
"We are fortunate to have Lisa and the excellent Logico team support us in delivering the training and qualifications, managing the process, and coordinating everything, allowing us to concentrate on developing new training and VQs."
