Keith Miller, chairman of earthmoving attachments manufacturer Miller UK, is preparing to take on an epic charity cycling challenge in Italy next week as part of the Virgin Strive Challenge.

As the debate around the skills gap in the UK construction industry continues to dominate the headlines, earthmover attachment and breaker manufacturer Miller has been continuing to invest in new apprentices. Three members of staff who all started out as apprentice fabricator welders on Miller’s shop floor at the firm’s Cramlington, county Northumberland, England HQ are said to have never looked back.

Through its subsidiary Swerock, Peab has signed a Letter of Intent with HeidelbergCement Northern Europe for Peab to acquire the operations run by the HeidelbergCement company within extraction, production and sales of gravel and rock products in the Western Götaland region of Sweden. Global construction equipment demand is expected to grow 5% next year to 690,506 units, according to the latest forecast from Off-Highway Research (OHR). A recent report from The Parker Bay Company says that the mining equipment market is near a 20-year low.

The company says in its Surface Mining Equipment Index that whether compared to previous reports sequentially (Q2 vs. Q1 2016), year-over-year (Q2 2016 vs. Q2 2015) or vs. the peak levels that were obtained in 2012, the latest reported deliveries are “dismal.”
