Komatsu Mining Germany, based in Düsseldorf, and the Komatsu Hanomag, based in Hanover, are to merge, keeping both locations, to form Komatsu Germany. Komatsu Hanomag was founded in 1835 as the Hannoversche Maschinenbau Actiengesellschaft (Hanover Machine Construction Corporation) (Hanomag) and has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of the global corporation Komatsu since 2002.

The new land will double the size of the Ouse Fen reserve, making it bigger than 200 football pitches and setting it on the way to becoming the UK’s largest reedbed.

A new Cemex quarry in Datchet, county Berkshire, England adjacent to the M4, is starting to supply essential sand and gravel to construction customers and ready-mixed concrete plants in London and the South East.

Datchet quarry will supply approximately 400,000tonnes of material per year and is of strategic importance in the supply chain to the region’s construction industry. With many quarries in the area now exhausted, Datchet will provide a locally sourced and more sustainable material.

FLSmidth has signed another contract with Wadi El Nile Cement Company (WNCC) for operation and maintenance of its cement plant approximately 120km south of the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

The contract is a five-year continuation of the existing contract signed in 2010.

In addition, WNCC also ordered an upgrade of the plant from 6,000-7,200tonnes of clinker/day. The upgrade will be carried out as an integral part of the operation and maintenance contract.

To facilitate an expansion in trade, Associated British Ports (ABP) at Ipswich, eastern England, has placed orders for the supply of five new grabs from pALM Bulk Solutions, the UK dealer for MRS Greifer of Germany.

The grabs are all of high close, clam shell design, the largest of which has a capacity of 13 m³ and is designed for handling a wide range of bulk materials with a bulk density up to 1tonne/m³.

Tarmac has invested in a Hitachi EX1900-6 ultra-large excavator for its Swinden Quarry in county North Yorkshire, England.

The site’s new primary mover is said to be helping to reduce operational hours at the site by increasing productivity and efficiency, and is used to load up to 1,200tonnes of carboniferous limestone/hour directly into a 200tonne mobile crusher.

A field conveyor takes the material to a secondary crusher at an average rate of 1,000tonnes/hour.

Cemex representatives who visited Bobcat’s plant in Pontchâteau, Loire-Atlantique, France, recently, have placed further orders for eight new Bobcat telehandlers.

The visit followed the delivery of eight machines to various production sites belonging to the Cemex Group at the beginning of the year.

Cemex operations make full use of the telehandlers, which have been supplied with a range of attachments such as pallet forks, buckets, jibs and man platforms.
