The new standard developed by the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO), ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety, is the focus of this month’s ‘Lunch & Learn’ webinar from the Institute of Quarrying (IQ).

Thamesport Cement has applied to build and operate a major cement manufacturing plant on the Isle of Grain in Kent, UK.

The company submitted a planning application to Medway Council in February which identified a suitable area for the plant on the London Thamesport Container Port facility on the Isle of Grain at the mouth of the River Medway.

Kelston Sparkes’ has assembled the largest fleet of Bell Equipment B50 articulated dump trucks (ADTs) in Europe after committing to purchase four B50E models.

One of the largest and most recognised earthmoving contractors in the UK, Kelston Sparkes will use the new additions for load-and-carry quarrying operations. The B50E ADT quartet add to the company’s existing fleet of 10 B50Ds that has run successfully since 2014.

This year’s Institute of Quarrying (IQ) study tour for students from the University of Derby’s Centre for Mineral Products runs from 18-22 March 2019 and takes in a number of different mineral extraction and processing sites located across the north-west England.

Tarmac has donated £25,000 towards the upkeep of one of two emergency Land Rover vehicles used by North East Wales Search & Rescue (NEWSAR).

The donation follows NEWSAR’s continued help in the development of Tarmac’s emergency quarry evacuation plans at Hendre quarry and for providing talks to children about the dangers of swimming in quarries and deep water uninvited and unsupervised.
