Eternit Baltic, a Lithuanian construction materials producer, has begun the construction of its new fibre cement factory in the northern Lithuanian town of Naujoji Akmene. The factory, which will employ at least 50 people in three years, will produce fibre cement weatherboards. Eternit Baltic was formerly a subsidiary of Belgium's Etex Group.

The Portuguese holding company Semapa, whose commercial interests include the cement sector, recorded exports of €1.17 billion in the first nine months of 2015, accounting for 74.5% of its turnover which stood at €1.57 billion - an increase of 6% compared to the same period of 2014. A new Cemex wharf has been officially opened in Dagenham, Southeast England, providing the closest aggregate production north of the river to central London. US-based construction materials firm Vulcan Materials has reported third-quarter net income of US$123.8 million. The Birmingham, Alabama-based company had net income of 91 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and to account for discontinued operations, came to 95 cents per share. The results matched Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was also for earnings of 95 cents per share.

Euro Auctions was today putting up more than 350 lots of used construction equipment at its latest on-site and online auction in Brisbane, Australia.

Large and mini excavators, wheeled loaders, dozers, dump trucks and motor graders were among models up for grabs during the event at a site off Main Beach Road, in the eastern Brisbane suburb of Pinkenba. Bruno Garabos, CEO of gypsum company Garabos Frères, has become the new French gypsum and insulation trades union UMPI president.

He replaces Philippe Caillol, while Patrick Laye, head of the gypsum company, is his vice-president.

It is reported that Garabos aims to check the downward spiral of the quality of products and pull prices up as they have gone down by 5% to 10%.

Cameroon cement company Cimencam, which previously sold its cement higher than any other market player, has reduced its prices to become the least expensive supplier, with a 50kg bag of its cement going for XAF 4,350 (€6.63/US$7.30) in Douala.

Cement producers in the Philippines registered a 13.6% year-on-year increase in their collective sales volume from 16.39 million tonnes to 18.28 million tonnes during the nine months ended September 2015 including 6.37 million tonnes (up 18.6%) in July-September 2015 alone.

The Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippine (CEMAP), which disclosed the information, attributed the sales growth to the recovery of the real estate market and a stable infrastructure spending.
