The Government of Indonesia’s impressive mega infrastructure plans are set to see a rise in pre-cast concrete sales within the country’s overall concrete sales.
Pre-cast concrete sales accounted for 14% (5.2 million tonnes) of the 37.1 million tonnes of total concrete cement sales in Indonesia during H1 2014, according to Association of Pre-cast and Pre-stressed Professionals' secretary general Hari Nugraha Nurjaman, based on data from the Ministry of Public Works.
By 2015, contribution from the pre-cast concrete industry is expected to account for as much as 20% of the country's concrete sales volume.
President-elect Joko Widodo's incoming government is preparing to launch several infrastructure projects, like 2,000kms of new toll roads and a sea toll project. Based on the most recent government data, Indonesia's per capita use of cement stands at 229kg/year, which is lower than the 400kg in per capita use of cement per year in the Philippines and 600kg in Malaysia.
