The new 395 Caterpillar D8R is said to combine the rugged, built-in durability and reliability of its predecessors with features that further enhance operator safety and comfort, while simplifying routine maintenance.

The D8R’s new cab, with an integrated Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS) and enhanced visibility, especially to the sides of the machine, is quieter and more effectively pressurised to keep out dust for a cleaner operating environment. New pilot-operated controls for the implement hydraulic system reduce operator effort and provide more consistent, precise, and responsive operation.

For fast, simple routine maintenance, the D8R is designed with grouped service points, sight gauges, fast-fuel-fill capability, and easy access to the engine compartment. The machine’s modular design allows easy access to major power-train components for service or replacement, and individual radiator cores are quickly replaced. The net result is claimed savings in cost and downtime. The Product Link telematics system, working through the Caterpillar VisionLink user interface, provides timely access to critical machine data, such as location, event codes and service hours.

For optimum customer value, the D8R is said to be designed for more than one life. Cat Certified Rebuild and Remanufacturing options can extend the machine’s useful life and further reduce lifetime owning and operating costs.

Using the field-proven Cat 3406C DITA engine with a reliable mechanical fuel-injection system, the D8R has the power to move the most stubborn materials, and the engine’s Advanced Modular Cooling System delivers optimum cooling capacity with increased airflow to work in the most demanding environments.

Available for the D8R are Desert and Waste Handler arrangements that are specially equipped to work more efficiently in these harsh environments.
