More than 100 delegates and exhibitors from across the UK’s quarrying and aggregates sector gathered earlier this week for the 2015
The event at the Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel in Birmingham, county Warwickshire, England on Monday 29 June included a number of morning presentations from, among others, Joseph Mankelow, of the British Geological Survey, on the importance of delegates’ contributing to the next Minerals Survey for England and Wales; Brian Duthie, of Key GeoSolutions, spoke under the heading Maximising Quarry Reserves whilst maintaining Health & Safety standards; and Caroline Jewell, of
Eric Darlow presented the AA 2015 Quarry of the Year Award to Chris Henderson of Sherburn Stone’s Helbeck Quarry in Brough, county Cumbria, northern England. They also received the BAA Operating Standards Award along with William Thompson, Sheephill Quarry, Dumbarton, Scotland.
After lunch a seminar was held including contributions from leading UK quarrying and aggregates sector figures such as Phil James, of the Institute of Quarrying, who gave a presentation titled ‘Driving Performance Through People – Lessons in Eduction’; and Adrian Charters and Adrian Wilkinson, of QuarryDesign Ltd, who presented under the title ‘Drones – The Law and the Benefits’.
The seminar was followed by the 2015 BAA AGM and BAA Annual Dinner. Many delegates also took part in the following day’s BAA Annual Golf Tournament.
