Ethiopia is planning to increase its annual total cement production to 27 million tonnes. Currently, the east African nation’s 20 cement plants produce stands at 15.1 million tonnes. The average cement production capacity at the cement plants is 65% of the installed capacity. Ethiopia is looking to increase the capacity to 80%, according to the director of cement and related products industry development, Solomon Yohannes.
As reported by Walta Information Centre, the cement plants in the country have created job opportunities for 10,000 people. In the GTP II period, Ethiopia aims to earn US$40 million from cement export.
