According to expert estimates, in 2015 St Petersburg and the Leningrad region produced 14.8-16 million m³ of crushed stone, around 48% of total production in the Northwest Federal District, and approximately 10.5% of total production in Russia.

In 2014, the rate amounted to 19 million ³. Amikron-Consulting experts say the construction and repair of roads accounts for 60-70% of crushed stone consumption in the region; the production of concrete and reinforced concrete products for 25-30%, and RZD (Russian Railways) needs for 3-5%.

Local companies produced 81-83% of crushed stone consumed in the region, andthe rest comes primarily from the Republic of Karelia (North-West).

Less than 0.5% comes from Belarus, Ukraine, Finland and Norway.

The largest crushed stone players in the St Petersburg and Leningrad region market are LSR Base Materials (28% in 2014); Vozrozhdenie-Nerud (12%); Tekhnostrom, and Lenstroykomplektatsiya (10-11% each).

According to GS-Expert, the average crushed stone price dropped by 1.8% year-on-year in 2015 due to demand reduction.

The cost of this material may increase in 2016 thanks to the termination of the supply of cheaper crushed stone from Ukraine, forecasts IPEM.

Also, an increase in interest rates for rolling stock may raise costs of shippers, which may scale up prices.
