Aggregates in Catalonia, Spain, reach €100mn turnover in 2015

The aggregates sector in Catalonia, Spain, has reported turnover of €100 million in 2015, after increasing production 2% on a year earlier to 22 million tonnes. The aggregates sector in Catalonia, Spain, has reported turnover of €100 million in 2015, after increasing production 2% on a year earlier to 22 million tonnes.

The bulk of the opencast mining industry production relates to aggregates, which are used for infrastructure, housing, shopping centres and industrial estates.

There was still a drop of 72.4% since the maximums seen in 2005, with the drop being even bigger when it came to turnover, as the price per tonne since 2005 has been dropping.

The drop across Spain for production came to 80.6% compared to 2005.

In Catalonia, the average consumption per head, per year, has dropped to 2.4tonnes, while in Spain the average is 2tonnes.
