Nigerian research on cement for roads

Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, the Nigerian Minister of Science & Technology, says that research is being conducted to look at cement production for use in concrete road construction. Because of the way some roads constructed, the asphalt used gets damaged, and production of indigenous cement for roads has become a necessity, the Minister is reported as saying. The government has asked the Nigerian Building & Road Research Institute to start research on concrete.

Nigerian government commends Dangote Cement’s self-sufficiency feat

The Nigerian federal government has officially confirmed that the country has attained self-sufficiency in the production of cement and is now an exporter of the commodity.

It ascribed the feat to Dangote Cement which is said to have spearheded spare headed the integration policy introduced by the government.

Ethiopia’s cement industry has enjoyed substantial growth in the past decade due to strong key drivers attracting foreign cement makers. However, emerging challenges linked to existing gaps in the country’s national investment policy could erode gains already achieved. Shem Oirere reports.
