Lafarge Tarmac scoops national CSR award for procurement and recycling expertise

Lafarge Tarmac’s approach to procurement and sustainability has been recognised after the company scooped the Corporate Social Responsibility category at the Procurement Leaders Awards 2013 for its company-wide approach to asphalt recycling. The national awards, which are run in partnership with business-to-business title, Procurement Leaders, are one of the UK’s most high-profile and respected procurement events. It celebrates companies that are leading the way in procurement best practice.

7235 Lafarge Tarmac’s approach to procurement and sustainability has been recognised after the company scooped the Corporate Social Responsibility category at the Procurement Leaders Awards 2013 for its company-wide approach to asphalt recycling.

The national awards, which are run in partnership with business-to-business title, Procurement Leaders, are one of the UK’s most high-profile and respected procurement events. It celebrates companies that are leading the way in procurement best practice.

The win recognised Lafarge Tarmac’s work to increase industry uptake of recycled asphalt pavement (RAP), which has helped the company divert 350,000tonnes of waste from landfill; save 3,000tonnes of carbon and significantly reduce its reliance on oil-based materials.

Following an investment of £3.5 million (€4 million) in asphalt recycling technology in 2012, Lafarge Tarmac’s strategy has been delivered by its Asphalt and Aggregates and Contracting businesses with the support and guidance of its procurement and sustainability teams.  

Tony Roberts, Lafarge Tarmac’s director of procurement said: “We’re proud to have received recognition at these globally important awards for our work to promote waste reduction and material resource efficiency.  This has been achieved by thinking ahead, working in a coordinated way across our whole business, and collaborating with  our supply chain and our customers to reinforce a philosophy of ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’.”
