Infrastructure services company FM
The new £10 million (€11.8 million) Heathrow Asphalt plant will enable the company to efficiently serve highways clients and partners in west London, providing 24-hour security of supply and the capacity to produce up to 300,000tonnes of asphalt/year.
FM Conway has received planning consent for the new plant from the London Borough of Hillingdon and it is aiming for the site to be fully operational by April, 2014.
The facility will support FM Conway’s self-delivery model and will bolster its existing asphalt plant at Erith, County Kent, which is currently producing up to 400,000tonnes of asphalt/year. The plant has helped the company to drive a strategy based on recycling and can deliver asphalt with up to 85% recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) content.
Located next to the Grand Union Canal, the new plant will provide the company with the scope to potentially use the waterway to transport aggregates in order to minimise truck movements.
The plant will also feature aggregate crushing, screening and washing equipment to ensure the best use of all reclaimed materials. Half of FM Conway’s volumetric mixer fleet will be based at the Heathrow site, providing both high and low strength concrete mixes to meet customer needs across west London.
Michael Conway, CEO, FM Conway said: “Continued investment in our plant infrastructure underpins our self-delivery model and this new state-of-the-art facility will provide our customers in west London with the added security that we can provide them with on-demand access to high-quality materials.
“The new facility will build on the success of our Erith plant which has set a benchmark for asphalt recycling to ensure that our clients can leverage the environmental and economic benefits which come from resource efficiency.”
Through its self-delivery model, FM Conway offers a comprehensive service across the entire lifecycle of a project, from production and design to construction and maintenance. The model ensures that in-house expertise is available across the breadth of the company’s services and results in higher standards, lower costs, and more efficient delivery for clients.
