University of Nottingham awards laboratory contract

The University of Nottingham, central England, has awarded a contract for the construction of a new laboratory to a team consisting of Gleeds, the project manager; contractor Morgan Sindall, Aecom, WSP, Fairhursts and Northcroft. The GlaxoSmithKline Carbon Neutral Laboratory of Sustainable Chemistry will be the first carbon neutral laboratory in the UK, with Morgan Sindall expecting the laboratory to become carbon neutral after 25 years of operation.

The University of Nottingham, central England, has awarded a contract for the construction of a new laboratory to a team consisting of Gleeds, the project manager; contractor Morgan Sindall, Aecom, WSP, Fairhursts and Northcroft.

The GlaxoSmithKline Carbon Neutral Laboratory of Sustainable Chemistry will be the first carbon neutral laboratory in the UK, with Morgan Sindall expecting the laboratory to become carbon neutral after 25 years of operation.

Work on the 4,500m² facility, which is part funded by GlaxoSmithKline and will provide facilities for 100 researchers, is scheduled to begin this autumn.

The construction contract is valued at £15.8 million (€18.56 million), according to Morgan Sindall.
