Ciments de l’Afrique (CIMAF), a Moroccan construction company, will construct a US$83.2 million cement factory in Tema, Ghana’s industrial city.

This follows an agreement signed between the company and the Ghanaian government.

On completion, the factory will have the capacity to produce 1 million tonnes of cement annually, according to CIMAF Ghana, a parent company of the Moroccan construction giant.

The agreement follows a recent meeting where President John Dramani Mahama received a delegation from the Moroccan real estate group Addoha, led by director general of the group, Saad Sefrioui. The two parties agreed that CIMAF will complete the building of the cement plant within 18 months. The company has been charged to take account of local content and also work in accordance with domestic laws and regulations particularly those related to the protection of the environment.

The Ghanaian government is also expected to facilitate the acquisition of ten hectares of land as well as the lease of a limestone quarry.
