411 Doosan has been demonstrating three new versions that were recently added to its range of wheeled loaders.

The three machines – the DL280-5, the DL420CVT and the DL580-5 – were put through their paces at this week’s Doosan Quarry Days event held at the Bělice Quarry, just over 40km south of Prague in the Czech Republic.

An updated version of the DA30 articulated dump truck (ADT) was also present at the three-day event (18-20 September) which was attended by hundreds of Doosan customers, dealers and trade journalists from across Europe.
The full Doosan wheeled loader range comprises 13 models covering operating weights from 12 to 36tonnes.

The DL280-5 is a dedicated design for agricultural, waste and recycling and general industrial applications. The vehicle’s new features include a handrail installed around the cab roof with three holding points, designed to allow operators to move very safely all around the cab to clean windows and to perform other tasks.

Inside the cab, there is a new ergonomic joystick control with a progressive thumb wheel added for the auxiliary hydraulic line (3rd valve), often used to power high tip buckets and grapples commonly used in the waste and recycling market. The progressive thumb wheel is designed to ensure that no additional lever is needed, providing the easiest combination of movements to manage the 3rd valve operations.

The DL280-5 also features a new lockable steel cap on the transmission oil filler, the shape of which has been changed to allow it to be locked with a padlock.  When the transmission oil filler tube is locked, the transmission oil cannot be polluted with other types of oil or liquid, dust and other substances that could be transferred from handling waste material. Doosan says it is also an additional guarantee of security for the customer.

The DL420CVT-5 Stage IV compliant wheel loader is the first model in the Doosan wheeled loader range to be equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). A CVT transmission is composed of a hydraulic motor combined with a hydraulic pump which provides a smooth and continuous speed variation.

Doosan says that, by combining the two types of transmission, CVT ensures high loads can be carried at low engine speeds with high dynamics for an optimum wheel loader operating cycle.  It adds that the DL420CVT-5 therefore provides an increase in machine performance for operators working in digging, loading and lifting applications.

With a bucket capacity of 6.4 m3, the new DL580-5 has a similar look to the existing DL550-5 model, but features robust structural components and an advanced sophisticated double circuit axle cooling system to provide an ideal solution for applications such as block lifting and other heavier material-handling needs in industrial, construction, recycling, mining and quarrying applications.

To meet these requirements, the DL580-5 has an operating weight of 36030 kg and higher static tipping loads (straight/full turn 40°) of 29700 and 26200 kg, respectively.  The overall size of the DL580-5 is almost the same as the DL550-5, but the new model is equipped with a series of features that make the machine extremely reliable and durable.

For example, the front structure is more rugged, with greater rigidity and strength.  The DL580-5 has reinforced Z-bar kinematics for heavier lifting with few moving parts.  This design also helps stabilise the loader, enables rapid bucket movements and keeps the bucket at the right-angle position at all times.  As with all Doosan DL-5 models, the DL580-5 is also available with a High-lift configuration, with a longer arm enabling higher dumping of materials.

The main new feature of the revised 30-tonne DA30 ADT is a hydro-gas self-levelling system. The system is designed to provide improved performance and superior shock absorption for better driving comfort, especially when the truck is being driven while empty. To complement this, the operator will now benefit from a Grammer Actimo XXL seat in the cab as standard with its own independent low-frequency pneumatic and wide scissors-type suspension.
