While sales were up in Q1, the coronavirus pandemic led to Carthage Cement stopping all production and sales on March 20

Local cement sales increased by 33% to TD55.5m (US$19.25m) in the three months to March 31.

Carthage Cement says its business in the aggregates sector was impacted in Q1 by the delay in the execution of several public contracts and the halting of production and sales.

The company has suspended production and sales activities since March 20 in response to the Tunisian government's general containment policy to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Carthage Cement says it has taken "all necessary measures to ensure the monitoring and security of its various sites."

Clinker production totalled 145,815 tonnes in Q1. Cement production in Q1 increased by 8% to 362,356 million tonnes, compared with 335,003 tonnes in Q1 2019.
