Construction of Germany’s Kaiserschleuse Bremerhaven is well on the way to completion following delivery of over 48,000m3 of ready mixed concrete to the project by
Bremerhaven’s port is one of the key locations for transporting motor vehicles and the new lock provides a high capacity link to the River Weser.
The new facility replaces a lock built in 1897 which was too short and narrow for modern ships, which previously forced most of the traffic to use the ports other Nordschleuse lock. The opening of the new lock will remove a bottle neck in the port and improve traffic flows.
The scope of products delivered to the construction site by Cemex included underwater concrete, concrete for components exposed to frost and de-icing salts, and structural high compressive strength concrete. A specific ready-mix concrete was also produced for alternating wet and dry areas in the water exchange zone, where fluctuating water levels create greater abrasion.
