Indonesia’s SI in talks over opposition to its plant

Semen Indonesia (SI), the state cement company, is open to hold talks with the public following opposition surrounding its Rembang cement plant. A senior SI official is reported as saying that many are in support of the plant but there are also those who oppose the setting up of the IDR 4.45 trillion (€300.13 million/US$337.06 million) plant.

7818 Semen Indonesia (SI), the state cement company, is open to hold talks with the public following opposition surrounding its Rembang cement plant.

A senior SI official is reported as saying that many are in support of the plant but there are also those who oppose the setting up of the IDR 4.45 trillion (€300.13 million/US$337.06 million) plant.

The company hopes that the problems regarding the setting up of the plant can be settled through talks.

The plant is expected to offer employment to 3,000 people, out of which 40%-45% will be local residents.

The plant, which has a capacity of 3 million tonnes, is scheduled to start operations in 2017.
