HALYPS Domia Ylika operates an aggregates business in Mandra and two ready-mix concrete plants in Athens. LafargeHolcim says the acquisition will strengthen the position of HERACLES Group to support the thriving Athens metropolitan area and key infrastructure projects with sustainable building solutions. This is LafargeHolcim’s fifth bolt-on acquisition in 2021, which the company says is a key driver of its growth strategy.

Miljan Gutovic, LafargeHolcim region head EMEA, commented: “I am excited about the opportunities and growth prospects of this acquisition in the Attica region of central Greece. It will provide additional support towards our net zero ambition with our leading range of sustainable building solutions such as ECOPact green concrete."

The Mandra aggregates business is one of the largest aggregate businesses in Greece, while the two ready-mix concrete plants are based in the Athens suburbs of Gerakas and Aspropyrgos.

LafargeHolcim says the acquisition will offer HERACLES customers an expanded product portfolio of aggregate and concrete solutions, suitable for all construction projects. For instance, this April HERACLES Group launched its ECOPact green concrete range with a reduced CO2 footprint, offering innovative and sustainable construction solutions for the construction market across Greece.

HeidelbergCement says the sale is part of the realignment of its Greek business. The company adds that it will now focus on its core business in Greece and continue cement production through its subsidiary Halyps Cement.

Dominik von Achten, chairman of the managing board of HeidelbergCement, said: “After the divestment of the Kuwait business, the realignment in Greece is the next step in our portfolio optimisation as part of our Beyond 2020 strategy.”
