First-quarter American aggregate production increased in four of the nine USGS-measured geographic divisions. Aggregate production was also up in 25 of the 42 states that were estimated.
The USGS says the five leading aggregate-producing U.S. states were, in volume order, Texas, California, Florida, Missouri, and Arizona. Their combined total production was 169 million tonnes, up 10.5% compared to Q1 2021.
Within construction aggregates, an estimated 291 million tonnes of crushed stone were produced and shipped for consumption in Q1 2022 - a 3.5% rise compared to the previous first quarter.

The five leading crushed stone-producing states were Texas, Florida, Missouri, Georgia and Pennsylvania. The quintet's total combined production for consumption was 111 million tonnes, a 6.6% increase from the first quarter of 2021.
Q1 2022 sand and gravel production reached an estimated 185 million tonnes, up 5.2% compared to the same period of 2021.

The top five sand and gravel-producing states in Q1 2022 were California, Texas, Arizona, Utah and Washington. Their total first-quarter production stood at 76.9 million tonnes, up 8.1% compared to Q1 2021.
USGS crushed stone, sand and gravel estimates are produced from data reported to the agency through its quarterly sample survey of U.S. aggregate producers.
