Naundorfer Naturstein’s granite quarry in Freiberg, central Saxony, Germany, recently hosted a quarry days event organised by construction equipment dealer Fischer-Jung.

Uwe Stoll, owner of the granite quarries, was enthusiastic about the event on his site. "In February, we commissioned two new plants for processing our natural stone: a mobile Metso jaw crusher type Lokotrack LT120 and a mobile cone crusher Type LT300HP. The interaction between the two mobile units can now be impressively demonstrated.”
The production spectrum at the Naundorfer Naturstein quarry includes water bricks and antifreeze material in the grain sizes 0/32, 0/45, 0/56 as well as various other splits.
"We do not produce precious chippings. There are enough market players in our region to offer such things. We sell the material not only to all established road and civil engineering companies within a radius of 30 km, but of course also to our Arndt Brühl colleague."
Since the purchase of the quarry in 2010, Stoll has benefited from sustained economic growth. He has been able to increase his staff by four to
five times over the last nine years.
"We not only had to increase the workforce massively, but also had to adapt the technology. Until recently, when we had the Lokotrack LT106 and LT200HP in operation, we even worked in 2-shifts to handle the ongoing requests. Now we can do everything in one shift with the more powerful Metso crushers. Even if further overtime and a concentration of staff during the core working hours are unavoidable.” The entrepreneur now also uses the free production capacities in the course of an intelligent flexi-time regulation.
Naundorfer Naturstein’s larger crushers not only help Stoll to achieve higher throughput, but energy consumption also seems to improve in relation to its predecessor machines. "However, purely emotional matter, we have not had any binding evaluations or statistics yet," the quarry operator informs us. "In any case, we are extremely satisfied with Fischer-Jung's service," he adds.
Although the higher hourly output with the new crushers cannot yet be specified in tons, according to one of the operators one can hardly get by with the task in terms of time.
The main discharge belt of the new mobile primary crusher is not only longer than that of its predecessor, but also the feed opening, hopper volume and crushing chamber are much larger than on the LT106. A benefit for the feed size of the material, which can now be up to 80cm in size.
In addition, the LT120 is equipped with a hydraulic level compensation of the chassis, which is a great advantage when dealing with uneven ground. According to the manufacturer, the new mobile LT300HP crusher delivers at least 30-40% more power than the LT200HP. The final product, ready for sale, is later stockpiled on a mobile conveyor belt driven by the Metso cone crusher's integrated power generator.
As well as new crusher technologies, Fischer-Jung also presented other mobile Metso units such as the LT96, LT106 and LT1213S. The machines were loaded exclusively with JCB crawler excavators. In addition, various larger JCB wheeled loaders and numerous smaller machines (from mini excavators to telescopic handlers) were demonstrated.
