The series features leaders, experts and technological innovators from across the world and is hosted by WCA CEO Ian Riley.
The first two episodes have already been released. Episode one explores the EU-ETS (Emissions Trading Scheme) and its impact on the European cement sector, while the second assesses the role of technology in responding to climate change in the cement industry.
In Clinker Factor’s first episode, Ian talks to Michael Mehling (MIT), Anne Dekeukelaere (Cementis Consulting) and Vincent Lefebvre (Cem'In'Eu) about the EU-ETS, discussing some of its controversies, including the use of free allocation and carbon border adjustments, as well as the role that lessons learned from the EU-ETS can play in the design of new carbon trading schemes outside the EU.
The second episode features Thomas Schulz, CEO at FLSmidth, where the discussion turned to how technology and innovation can achieve CO2 emissions reductions and drive sustainability in the cement industry, including Mission Zero and recycled cements.
“In times like these, podcasting is a great way to reach the industry and its stakeholders, so we are very pleased with the launch of the Clinker Factor podcast series featuring discussions with experts and industry leaders on the cement industry response to climate change around the world,” said Riley. “I hope anyone interested in climate change mitigation and industrial sustainability will find them engaging. I am also very happy to hear comments or suggestions on future topics or guests.”
The next episode is due to be released on Wednesday November 11 with guest speaker Mahendra Singhi, CEO of Dalmia Cement, discussing his “grey to green” vision for the cement industry and how a response to climate change can be aligned with profits and the wider benefit of society. It also explores sustainability practices in India and opportunities for bio-fuels and supplementary cementitious materials.
