ACI promotes concrete field test certification programmes

March 27, 2020

The American Concrete Institute (ACI) promoted concrete field testing certification programmes at the Precast Show in Fort Worth, Texas.

The ACI promoted its ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I and Self-Consolidating Concrete Testing Technician certification programmes to an event attended by more than 4,000 precast concrete producers and equipment suppliers.

According to ACI, attendees showed an interest in its Self-Consolidating Concrete (SCC) Testing Technician certification programme as it is commonly used in precast construction and specialised applications.

John W. Nehasil, managing director, certification at ACI, says: “With self-consolidating concrete being such a viable option for precast construction, it’s important that proper testing to measure and monitor the characteristics of fresh SCC is performed. Specifying ACI-certified Self-Consolidating Concrete Testing Technicians allows for confidence when precasting construction elements.”

An ACI self-consolidating concrete testing technician is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge of and ability to properly perform five standard test methods and practices on self-consolidating concrete. Meanwhile, an ACI concrete field testing technician is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform and record the results of seven basic field tests on freshly mixed concrete. Both programmes require written and performance examinations.

Precast is sponsored by the National Precast Concrete Association and the Precast Prestressed Concrete Institute.
