CalPortland to upgrade rail moving technology at Oro Grande plant

June 7, 2019

CalPortland is to replace a rail mover at the Oro Grande cement plant in California in a bid to reduce equipment emissions by up to 97%.

The company will replace a 1987 Trackmobile with a 2019 Rail King RK330, following a $339,948 grant provided by the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District (MDAQMD).

Steve Regis, senior vice president corporate services, CalPortland, says the grant "allows us to operate a new, modern rail car mover, directly replacing older equipment that had a Tier 0 engine”.

The grant was provided through the MDAQMD Mobile Source Emission Reductions Programme, which authorises air quality districts to impose a surcharge fee on vehicles registered within the district jurisdiction to satisfy new responsibilities mandated under the California Clean Air Act.
