CarbonCure expands partnership with Central Concrete Supply

August 22, 2018

CarbonCure has expanded its partnership with Central Concrete Supply, a US Concrete business unit, to allow building developers across the West San Francisco Bay region to access concrete made with recycled carbon dioxide (CO2) by autumn 2018.

The technology introduces recycled CO2 into concrete during production in a bid to reduce the concrete's carbon footprint without impacting its properties or quality.

Central Concrete Supply has taken part in a one-year testing procedure at the US Concrete National Research Laboratory in San Jose and is now committed to a first phase roll-out which includes the installation of CarbonCure technology at seven of its West Bay plants.

Herb Burton, vice president and general manager, US Concrete West Region, says: “By adopting the CarbonCure Technology, Central Concrete is again exhibiting its leadership and commitment to reducing the overall carbon footprint without sacrificing performance.”

According to CarbonCure, the region's local design and construction community has a high demand for sustainability.

David Shook, structural engineer at Skidmore Owings Merrill (SOM), says: “SOM is committed to sustainable design. The CarbonCure technology is an important step in mitigating harmful carbon emissions and we look forward to its use in The Bay.”

Susan McComb, principal at BAR Architects, “We are continuously striving to push the boundaries of sustainability at BAR Architects. Concrete is an integral component on all of our designs and we are so excited to hear that Central Concrete has adopted the innovative CarbonCure Technology locally.”

Both companies will be co-promoting at the Carbon Smart Building Day next month in San Francisco. The conference is aimed at helping building professionals achieve a Net Zero Carbon built environment and is affiliated with the Global Climate Action Summit co-chaired by California governor Jerry Brown.
