Colombia-based Cementos Argos has received a patent of invention for the formulation and method of obtaining ultra high performance concrete or advanced concrete.
The patent was granted by the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce until the year 2035.
Daniel Duque, manager of research and development of Argos, says: "This concrete has a resistance seven times higher than that of conventional concrete, which gives it advantages of high strength and durability, outstanding seismic performance and versatility. This patent is the result of perseverance and teamwork to continue to consolidate as a company that is committed to innovation and that is concerned with providing extraordinary solutions to its customers. "
Cementos says the advanced concrete is characterised by having greater mechanical resistance (compression, direct traction and bending), offering greater resistance to chemical attacks and having high fluidity in a plastic state. These properties allow to increase the useful life of the projects and reduce their maintenance costs, build lighter structures with better structural behaviour, materialise forms of greater complexity and expand the creative options of designers and architects, the company adds.
In 2014, Argos started the research and development of the concrete and then commercialised it in 2017.
