Cemex participates in construction of shopping centre in Mexico

May 6, 2019

Cemex says it supplied 130,000 cubic metres of concrete and solutions for Punto Valle, a commercial plaza in the Monterrey metropolitan area in Mexico.

The company launched a plan to integrate four pumping lines and 500 linear metres of dedicated pipeline to supply concrete 24 hours a day with 100 trips per day utilising revolving trucks for massive castings and dedicating three ready-mix concrete plants.

Cemex delivered its Duramax technology, a brand of concretes which it claims self-seals cracks up to 0.4mm in width, thereby reducing construction costs and prolonging the life cycle of the structure.

Luis Franco, vice president of builder sales for Cemex Mexico, says the use of additive technology lead to a "significant reduction in permeability of the work – the concrete adapts to the conditions without any human intervention".

Desarrollos Missouri (DM), the project’s builder, set out to protect the 300,000 square metre shopping centre from the foundation.

Patricio Miguel Villarreal Guerra, representative for DM, says: “During the rainy season, the hydrostatic pressure generated in the underground structure is high and can cause damage to the interior. Cemex supported us with a concrete design solution that integrates the protection and impermeability that we need to protect the foundations and the basements.”
