The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association urges member companies to comment on the withdraw of the 2015 Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule by Sept. 27.
The association has drafted a template that can be useful for members to let the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) know that the WOTUS rule would have harmed the entire aggregates industry by unlawfully expanding the Clean Water Act.
Ten teleconferences have been scheduled on upcoming Tuesdays by the EPA to hear recommended revisions to the WOTUS rule, and the calls have been broken out by different topics:
- Small entities (businesses), Sept 19
- Environment and public advocacy groups, Sept 26
- Conservation, Oct 3
- Construction and transportation, Oct 10
- Agriculture, Oct 17
- Industry, Oct 24
- Mining, Oct 31
- Scientific organizations and academia, Nov 7
- Water agencies, Nov 14
- Open to general public, Nov 21
Small businesses can also attend an in-person on Oct 23, from 9-11 a.m., at EPA’s headquarters located at 1200 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington, DC, 20003.
Reservations to attend the in-person meeting will be open until Oct 13. If you plan to participate in any of the above meetings, please contact NSSGA’s Emily Coyner, director of environmental affairs, at [email protected] to coordinate comments.
During the transportation and small business teleconferences, NSSGA expects to highlight how vital aggregates are to infrastructure and the need for a clear WOTUS rule that protects water and respects property rights.
The WOTUS rule withdrawal effort and other important issues will be front and center topics of the association's upcoming Legislative & Policy Forum/Fall Board Meeting scheduled for Sept 24-28.
