Limestone shipments on the Great Lakes reached 3.9 million tons in July, up 15.4% compared to a year ago, according to the the Lake Carriers’ Association.
The association reported July’s loadings also slightly ahead of the month’s five-year average.??Loadings from US quarries totaled 3.16 million tons, an increase of 22.3% compared to a year ago, while shipments from Canadian quarries totaled 700,000 tons, a decrease of 60,000 tons, the association said.
Year-to-date the Lakes limestone trade stands at 12.6 million tons, down nearly 10% compared to a year ago. Loadings from Michigan and Ohio quarries total 10.3 million tons, down 1.4%.
Shipments from Ontario quarries total 2.35 million tons, down 13.4%.
