JCK Concrete has told residents in Royse City, Texas, that it has withdrawn plans to build a nearby concrete batch plant. According to a report by NBCDFW.com, the company received a permit by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to open a facility near Royse City Middle School and two other schools.
The report says parents gathered at the meeting on 5 September to voice concerns over possible health issues from the dust concrete plants emit.
Kirstie Mackie, a mother of three, says: "Nobody wants to watch their children grow up in a toxic environment, and physically, that's exactly what this is.”
According to the report: “While neighbours organising against the project were grateful to see it put on hold, they said they'll keep writing letters to TCEQ until they have the company's word in writing that they won't move forward with a plant.”
