Dallas City Council has a rejected proposal from Martin Marietta (MM) and Union Pacific Railroad to build new concrete plants in Joppa – in a report by Dallas News. Council member Kevin Felder, who represents the community, pushed for the denial, which won in a 9-5 vote.
Felder delivered a petition with more than 200 signatures from residents opposing the construction of the facilities as well as a rezoning plan in the area.
The outcome of Wednesday’s meeting is said to follow months of deferrals and concerns raised by residents on the environmental impacts of the plants.
A report by nbcdfw.com, highlighted that the site owned by the site run by the Union Pacific Railroad on South Expressway already has a gravel yard and asphalt plant. In addition, employees from MM attended the hearing with the intention of winning support along with members of the public on both sides of the zoning case.
