Public comment period on asphalt plant in King County extended to March

February 15, 2019

The public comment period on a proposal from Maple Valley Lakeside Industries to build an asphalt plant in King County, Washington, has been extended to 11 March.

According to The Reporter, the comment period was extended following a letter sent from King County Council member Reagan Dunn to the director of the King County Permitting and Environmental Review (DPER).

Dunn says:” I extended it so more people could have a chance to say what they wanted to say,”

Amanda Reykdal, director of real estate at Allison + Partners, says the public comment period was extended following confusion on whether the asphalt plant will be located in Maple Valley or Renton.

According to the report, Dunn said he has reintroduced placing a moratorium on the planning of the asphalt plant but emphasised that it may not delay the process of the asphalt plant as Lakeside already submitted their application to DPER in November 2018.

Residents are concerned that the placement of the plant on Highway 169 will increase pollution, traffic and noise.

The residents who are opposed to the plant have launched a petition to prevent the building of the asphalt plant called Say No to Asphalt Plant on the Cedar River.
