MSHA begins Workplace Exam training before enforcement

October 30, 2019

The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has announced the dates, times and locations of stakeholder meetings regarding the 2017 Workplace Exam rule.

The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) says the meetings are part of the 90-day implementation period that MSHA promised operations before beginning enforcement in late December. MSHA will provide training and compliance assistance to participants and member companies.

NSSGA staff will attend at least one meeting and will share with members any training materials distributed and report on key topics raised by MSHA staff and meeting attendees. Please find below information on the dates and locations of the five meetings.

Additionally, MSHA released an updated fact sheet and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document on the rule. It includes an overview of the rule’s history and major requirements operators must meet. The FAQ document also has a summary of the rule’s requirements and defines key terms like Competent Person, Working Place, Timing of Workplace Exams, Notification Requirements, Corrective Action Requirements, Scope and Timing of Corrective Action Records and Contractor Responsibilities.

More information on the dates and locations of the meetings is available on the website.
