The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is to publish a final rule which revises safety standards for mining explosives in the US.
The MSHA says the rule updates existing standards to incorporate technological advancements involving electronic detonators at mines.
The administration is also publishing a companion proposed rule for notice and comment rulemaking to provide a framework to finalise the rule in the event that it receives significant adverse comment and withdraws the direct final rule.
The direct rule will be effective on 16 March unless substantive adverse comments are received or postponed by midnight on 13 February. If this is the case, the MSHA will publish a withdrawal of the rule in the Federal Register.
