NSSGA to testify before Congress’ small business committee

September 5, 2017

Louis Griesemer, of Springfield Underground, will address the effects of overly-burdensome regulations on the aggregates industry with the House Small Business Committee.

Griesemer will testify during the “Expediting Economic Growth: How Streamlining Federal Permitting Can Cut Red Tape for Small Businesses” hearing led by Chairman Steve Chabot, R-Ohio, the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association says.

Watch the hearing live at 11 am on Sept 6, at https://smallbusiness.house.gov/calendar/eventsingle.aspx?EventID=400217.

According to the committee, the hearing will examine how federal permitting requirements burden small businesses and ways to streamline the permitting process.

“As an industry, we work with the federal government to promote policies that make our industry stronger, protect our environment and keep our workers safe,” Griesemer said. “However, some regulations are redundant, excessive or unnecessary"

"We are hindered by aspects of the Clean Water and Endangered Species Acts, which often are not applicable to our operations. We need to question whether a ‘one-size-fits all’ approach to enforcing regulations is what Congress intended, because right now, it is creating costly delays for critical infrastructure projects.”

Chairman Chabot has been an outspoken proponent of streamlining the regulations facing America’s small businesses so they can create jobs and help grow the economy. The committee recognized that small businesses must comply with many overlapping layers of the regulatory system, and that it takes a significant amount of time and money to obtain all the correct permits.
