In the UK, 6597 Encos is said to have started making a carbon neutral brick range, Encobricks, under a link up with 6596 S Morris, a construction materials producer.

The bricks are made from vegetable oil and recovered aggregates, with the actual manufacturing undertaken by Encos.

The production process produces no waste and consumes no water, while 80% less energy is used compared with traditional techniques.

S Morris managing director Brian Perry says the range from Encos possesses genuine potential to provide constructors and architects with a highly sustainable option.
