Leading UK infrastructure services company FM 2949 Conway has appointed Steve Millburn to a new role as head of its aggregates and asphalt operations (East), as it continues to grow its materials manufacturing capabilities.

Formerly operations director at Brett Aggregates, Steve brings nearly 30 years of experience in the industry to FM Conway. He will oversee the efficient operation of FM Conway’s asphalt manufacturing plants at Erith and Croydon, in addition to its bitumen terminal and Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) plant at Imperial Wharf and its Dartford recycling centre.  

FM Conway owns and operates a network of asphalt manufacturing plants across London and the south of England, with a focus on developing and supplying high-performance materials for the strategic and local highways networks.

The business also operates its own research and development laboratory to create more resilient and sustainable road materials to improve durability and support more efficient construction methods. Working closely with the University of Nottingham and the University of New Hampshire, the company recently released pioneering research into the effects of large-scale manufacturing on the properties of asphalt to better model real-world performance.
